Its attack mode still follows the worm AI, with split segments continuing to battle; however it moves slightly slower than the prehard Eater of Worlds. To compensate, it is way bigger, quickly using up all space and cornering the player if they're not paying attention while evading.
Its most dangerous trait is the barbs covering its whole body. Any kind of physical contact with the boss will afflict the player with several debuffs, including freezing. This will leave the player at the mercy of the Zone Eater, which could be a death sentence since it deals huge damage and will try to ram the player with every single segment in its body while the player is stunned. Usage of shields (Turtle Shield works best) is highly advised; if you are hit while defending there is a chance to block the next hit, allowing you to quickly flee before getting stunned again.
When a segment of the boss is slain it has a chance to drop a Shadow chest plate.
- When spawned, the message "Eater of Worlds has awoken" will be displayed.
- Every segment slain gives the message "Eater of Worlds has been defeated".
- Since this worm is gigantic, it is pretty easy for it to despawn if its head goes too far. The only worm that is longer than the Zone Eater is The Destroyer, but it never despawns while there are players alive (as long as it's night time), even if it is on the other side of the world. Try to keep it near the center of the screen if possible, but don't get too close.
